Duck, North Carolina ,located on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, has access to many colorful and unique special events throughout the year. Below is a list of just some of the major events found in the region.

The Lost Colony – This is America’s longest running outdoor drama that details the arrival and subsequent disappearance of “The Lost Colony” on Roanoke Island. It is located at the Waterside Theater on beautiful Roanoke Island, Fort Raleigh National Historic Site.

Roanoke Island Festival Park – the history of the Outer Banks comes to life at this park located across from the Manteo Waterfront. Exhibits are featured on The Lost Colony, Native Americans of the Outer Banks and much more.

Annual Dare Day Street Dance – this annual event located on the Manteo Waterfront is usually held in June and features games, live music, lots of good food, vendors and more. Several bands perform during the festival and street dancing starts at 5:30PM.

Annual OBX Jaycees Beach Music Festival in May – Located at the Roanoke Island Festival Park and proceeds benefit several local charities. Guests enjoy live music from several different bands. Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the gate and children under 10 are free.

Antiques Fair – this is an annual event, usually held in the month of June, and runs for three days at the outdoor pavilion at Roanoke Island Festival Park. More than 20 antique dealers from different states offer a large assortment of items, including primitives, depression glass, estate jewelry, furniture, quilts, china, mirrors, lamps, Victorian items and much, much more. A regular feature of the fair is the Self-Guided Manteo Quilt Walk where local residents and merchants display colorful quilts on banisters, windows – everywhere!

June Fishing School – an annual sport fishing school that has been a tradition for over fifty years. The fishing school is held in Hatteras, North Carolina and is sponsored by the North Carolina State University.

Many other festivals and county fairs are held in and around the Outer Banks region throughout the season. If you are visiting at a particular time of the year, the local Chamber of Commerce can provide more information on special events in the area.
