Duck, North Carolina Weather
is mild with no extreme variations in temperatures. You can expect lovely weather all year long with highs in the wintertime reaching the mid-50s and lows in the 30s or 40s. Summer temperatures rarely exceed the mid 80s. As part of the Outer Banks, the Gulf Stream affects the climate. Though the Gulf Stream lies some 50 miles offshore, warm water eddies spin off from it and keeps winter air temperatures moderate along the Outer Banks. Coastal fronts are common during the winter months, and can push inland, bringing warmer than expected temperatures to coastal areas. Tropical hurricanes come close enough to influence North Carolina weather about twice in an average year. Much less frequently, perhaps once in 10 years, these storms strike a part of the coast with enough force to do damage to inland property. In general, however, the weather along the North Carolina coast is beautiful every season of the year.
